With school now in session, the Meridian High School Wildcats are gearing up for another exciting season!

The MHS Wildcats will host a “Football Jamboree” on Friday, August 16 at 7 p.m. in Ray Stadium. The Wildcats will take on Neshoba Central. The west side of the stadium (press box side) will be open for the Jamboree and tickets cost $5 per person.

After the Jamboree, the Wildcats will hit the road for their first two season games. The Wildcats travel to play Northwest Rankin on August 23 and Quitman on August 30. MHS will play their first home game on September 6 at 7 p.m. in Ray Stadium against perennial state power South Panola. Also, mark your calendars for the 2013 Meridian High School Homecoming game to be held on Friday, September 27. For a complete 2013 football schedule, please click here.

Meridian High School Head Football Coach Larry Weems said, “We are looking forward to a great year of Wildcat football. Our young men have been working hard to prepare for the season, and we encourage you to come out and continue to support them.”

Since maintaining safe and orderly schools is the number one priority of the Meridian Public School District, we want to ensure that all members of the community feel safe and are able to enjoy the football games. Therefore, we will continue to enforce a "no loitering" procedure. We ask that everyone in attendance stay in their seat unless using the restroom or visiting the concession stands. No loitering on the field, underneath the stadium, or in the stadium will be allowed. Also, fighting, the use of profanity or any other unacceptable behavior from students or adults will not be tolerated.

“Meridian High School is looking forward to another great season,” said MHS Principal Victor Hubbard. “We ask that all visitors and supporters abide by the rules and regulations so that everyone can be safe and enjoy the game.”

Reserved ticket holders will have reserved parking on the band practice field which is located behind the west side of the stadium and accessed from Poplar Springs Drive. Twenty minutes prior to kick-off, the reserved parking will no longer be reserved and it will open up to non-reserved ticket holders. Tailgating will be allowed along the 32nd Street side of the reserved lot for reserved ticket holders.

During the homecoming game on September 27, a large tailgating area will be reserved for all who would like to participate. The area reserved for the Homecoming tailgate will be in the lower parking lot between Poplar Springs Drive and the new Multi-Purpose Building. The cost of the Homecoming tailgate will be $50 per group plus each group member must have a game ticket.

“We anticipate yet another stellar year from Coach Weems and his Gridiron Cats,” said MPSD Athletic Director Chuck Butler.  “We hope you take the opportunity to support our Meridian Wildcat Football Team.”
